It appears to be some sort of horn. It has a brass fitting on one end, and a wood looks like cap on the other. I have not attempted to open it because of the damage as can be seen in pictures 2 and 8

 

Antique primitive double butter mold; appears to be cherry wood. Comes open at the hinged sides and the end pieces come out. I'm not too knowledgeable in this area so please look carefully at the phot
