This is a petite 3-1/2" x 2-1/2" cast iron embosser introduced by R. Woodman of Boston, Mass. in 1876. It is called the Centennial Check Protector. Both sides of the embosser have a raised dot surface

 

The previous owner informed me that this typewriter is circa 1893, having researched it extensively. It's in good working condition but in need of a good cleaning. I have not removed it from the case.

 

Nice antique type writer ( non - working ) ribbon has black ink , paper rolls up & down , roller slides back & forth , but when typing roller doesn't, t slide back & forth maybe I'm pushin
